Pregnant and Parenting Students – Resources for Students

Although pregnancy is not covered by the ADA, many disability services offices are being asked by their institutions to provide support to pregnant students.

The Pregnant Scholar Project – “For Students” section has some excellent resources DSS staff can share with students  including a section covering Title IX basics. There is also a FAQ section and the Student Rights section addresses the following topics:

  • Breastfeeding
  • Accommodations for pregnancy related conditions
  • Working at school while pregnant or parenting
  • Financial aid
  • Extracurricular and athletic activities, and;
  • Leave and absences

Although not easily located at the site, this same information is also available in PDF form as brief handouts.

The Pregnant Scholar Project: This site provides resources for students, postdocs, faculty, administrators, and others in institutions of higher education, including colleges, community colleges, universities, and similar programs. Material at the site is based upon work supported by the National Science Foundation under Grant Number (IIA-1449752) and is part of the Center for WorkLife Law at University of California Hastings College of the Law.
